FIELD NOTE / PRE-DEVELOPMENT

Hardware feasibility check

A fast pre-development hardware feasibility check: screen existing manufactured devices before spending on custom electronics, enclosure design and prototypes.

01

Define one decision

A useful feasibility screen answers one narrow question: does an already-manufactured base exist that is close enough to adapt for this customer and job?

02

Use hard reject gates

Reject dev boards, generic rebrands, phone-replaceable gadgets, weak “AI” devices and products with no credible software or customization surface.

03

Capture decision evidence

For each surviving device, capture the exact listing, supplier, price signal, OEM/ODM indicators, software claims, integration questions and obvious risks.

04

Keep free discovery small

Three strong candidates are more useful than a catalogue dump. If the first three-device pass is weak, stop. If it is credible, deeper supplier and product work becomes rational.

05

Do not confuse sourcing with verification

A feasibility scan reduces search space. It does not replace engineering sign-off, supplier due diligence, compliance testing or sample validation.

Test the market before you fund the hardware.

The first 3-device signal check is free. If the evidence is weak, stop there. If there is a credible manufactured path, the full 48-hour scout is $349.
